The setting we are born into is the foundation for the structure of our life and the stories we tell about it. This setting needs to be understood, acknowledged, and embraced. Any aspect of our cultural or social setting may have influenced us in unknown ways, until we really look deeply into these factors.

Reflect on who brought you into the setting you initially came into. What was their cultural heritage that also became yours? What do you remember most about any of the components of this cultural or social setting? Where there any family traditions being carried on? Out of all that you can reconstruct from your reflections on your cultural setting, what are the cultural or familial influences that have stayed with you the most over your years, and what have you learned from these? See if you can tell this story following the pattern of beginning, muddle, and resolution.
