There’s usually a time in all of our lives when we feel for the first time that we have finally reached that place in relationship to others, adults especially, when we are their equal; or, we feel that we are now worthy of the recognition and respect we deserve as adults. In traditional communities of the past, these milestones were marked by clearly defined rites of passage, when the whole community came together to create the circumstance for and to acknowledge the completion of this natural and necessary process. Today, we are pretty much left on our own to become aware of when, how, and why this is happening.

Reflect on that time in your life when this kind of experience and awareness was evident to you. What happened to give you this new understanding of belonging and finally fitting into the adult world? Write this up in a style and form comfortable to you, using the beginning, muddle, and resolution pattern as your guide.
